Are you a strong supporter of the green movement? Do you do your share in preserving Mother Nature in your own little way and encourage others to do the same? Are you a member of a group involved in environmental preservation?
If green living is your thing, maybe it’s time you don a green shirt as well. Many companies are now manufacturing these eco-friendly shirts and they’re available in numerous great designs.
So what’s really a green shirt? It specifically refers to clothing made from 100 percent cotton and created in a way that has little impact on the environment using only minimum resources.
But it’s not just the usual cotton that’s being used in making the shirts. It’s the organic cotton or one not treated with pesticides or herbicides. As no chemicals are used, it is considered stronger and more durable although it can command a high price. Owing to its high cost, some companies thought it wise to use both the traditional and organic cotton in making their shirts. This way, they are able to lessen the negative impact of the grown cotton and provide consumers with more affordable clothing.
In addition to the raw materials, the preparation and manufacturing process must also meet global standards to make the shirts certified eco-friendly. There are other materials as well that are used in creating this type of clothing such as organic hemps and linens, bamboo and tencel which comes from eucalyptus trees.
In printing the designs, non-toxic inks are also used to make the shirts more environment friendly and comfortable to wear.
You may not be familiar about how cotton plants are grown today. Just so you know, they are actually treated with pesticides which are harmful to the environment and humans. Once harvested and processed, more toxic chemicals are used to include bleach and heavy metal dyes.
